Elon Musk may soon be heading to space – but not on a SpaceX rocket

Elon Musk plans to take a trip to space with Virgin Galactic, according to an article published by the Wall Street Journal on Sunday. Billionaire’s decision to brave space follows in Blue Origin owner’s footsteps Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson of Virgin Galactic, who also has ambitions for space travel.

It’s unclear where Musk, CEO of electric car maker Tesla and rocket company SpaceX, could be on Virgin Galactic’s long waiting list. Tickets for his trip to space sold for $ 250,000 each.

Virgin Galactic told CNET on Monday that she could not comment on the identity of the future astronauts.

Branson made a short space flight Sunday aboard his Virgin Galactic space plane. The trip, which departed from Spaceport America in New Mexico, marked the first time the British billionaire entered space and traveled with a full crew cabin. Branson called the trip an “experience of a lifetime” in a radio transmission sent as the plane returned to Earth.

Before his Sunday flight, Branson recognized his friendship with Musk in a tweet, saying it’s “great to start the morning with a friend”.

Musk has had his eyes on space for quite some time now. He plans to send big rockets in space with the aim of possibly arrive on mars, and meanwhile, SpaceX has been busy sending resupply missions to the International Space Station and placing satellites into orbit in order to transmit broadband signals to Earth.

Bezos, who resigned as CEO of Amazon last week, plans to fly to space aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket on July 20.

Tesla and SpaceX did not immediately respond to CNET’s request for comment.
