Elon Musk validates the existence of Tesla Bot although it does not fit into the Master Plan

Over the weekend, Elon Musk validated the existence of the Tesla Bot.

“Bot is not directly on the path to accelerating a sustainable energy future, but it is ambitiously improving the likelihood that the future will be good,” Musk replied when asked how the Tesla Bot was linked to the company’s mission.

Tesla AI Day viewers will be the first to say that the Tesla Bot stole the show that day. The humanoid robot doesn’t necessarily fit the company’s goal of a sustainable future like electric cars and battery storage systems, but it’s a product that fits Elon Musk’s style.

On AI Day, Musk explained that the Tesla Bot would be used to help with “boring, repetitive and dangerous work.” The Tesla Bot is not the first robot to enter the market to perform such tasks.

Many robots have already been deployed around the world to help humans at work. More recently, the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the various benefits of using robots in the medical field.

Robots in hospitals could be an example of robots taking over the dangerous work of humans. A study on the reuse of humanoid robots for patient care during the pandemic listed several functions of robots in the hospital. Besides patient care, the list included hospitals using robots for communication, grunt work, and decontamination.

Outside of the medical field, robots have also helped to meet labor needs in countries where older people leave the labor market outnumbering young people entering it. Japan, for example, has turned to artificial intelligence and robotics as a solution to its rapidly declining workforce in several industries.

Japan is perhaps the only country that has openly started to integrate humanoid robots into mainstream society. With that in mind, at least one person on the Tesla board can fully understand the use of the Tesla Bot, namely Hiro Mizuno.

Oddly, Mizuno candidly tweeted a GIF from the anime. Neon Genesis Evangelion just before the Tesla AI Day livestream. Looking back, that could have been a huge clue to the Tesla Bot. Although fans of the iconic series note that its stance on artificial intelligence and man-made humanoid creations in general is quite cautious.
