MINNEAPOLIS – The Chicago White Sox were already enjoying a good season despite the absence of two key players. Now that Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert are back in training, the leaders of AL Central promise to be even more formidable.
Jimenez hit two home runs with five RBIs for the second game in a row. Robert came off the 60-day injured list to deliver an RBI double and a single, and the White Sox topped the Minnesota Twins 11-1 on Monday night.
“Getting these two guys back is kind of a reminder of what they can do to help us,” manager Tony La Russa said. Tim Anderson started the game with a home run for the second straight day, and Lucas Giolito threw two hits in eight innings as the White Sox won their fourth in a row.
Jimenez became the White Sox’s first player with consecutive games of at least two homers and five RBIs, and the first in majors since Bryce Harper for Washington in 2015.
Jimenez has five homers and 14 RBIs in 10 games since returning from the injured list after missing the entire season with a ruptured pectoral tendon suffered during spring training.
“Yeah, I’m feeling really good,” Jimenez said of his home plate timing.
Giolito (9-8) faced the minimum in the first seven innings. The first hit he allowed came on hard ground from Luis Arraez to start the fifth inning which took a look at Giolito’s leg.

“It was a tough start for us and then when we got into the batter’s box Giolito was really strong,” Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said. Tonight was one of the nights that I think his leadership fit in with his business and he was exceptionally difficult with us. ”
Beau Burrows (0-1) allowed seven runs – six earned – in two innings on his first career start. He was claimed on waivers from Detroit on June 22 and was recalled from Triple-A on July 27. His ERA has risen to 13.91 in six appearances this season.
Anderson fielded the fifth pitch of the game in the left-field seats. He opened Sunday night’s game at Wrigley Field with a homerun, sending the White Sox to a three-game sweep against the Cubs.
Jimenez hit a massive homerun on the second deck coating over the batter’s eye in center field for a two-run homerun in the first inning. He connected for a three-point workout in the second.
Yoan Moncada scored the ninth for Chicago.
“You can’t underestimate when you start like this,” La Russa said of Anderson and Jimenez’s first-run homers. “They set a certain pace for the game and our guys were hungry the whole time.”
