The legendary British singer tries an impression of Michael Caine but fails to impress the cast team – before Caine himself makes an appearance. The two celebrities have already been vaccinated against the coronavirus, the NHS said.
Their call for more Britons to be vaccinated comes as the UK seeks to expand its deployment. Britain has already vaccinated more than 12 million people with at least one dose and is now asking people aged 70 and over in England who have not been vaccinated to make an appointment.
“I wanted to be in this movie to show people the benefits of getting the vaccine and how it helps us protect ourselves and the people we love,” John said. “So, I hope we can all come together and do our part in the fight against this miserable disease.”
In the video, the 73-year-old sings his 1980s hit “I’m Still Standing” after claiming to be hit. The parody also sees Caine, 87, telling viewers that the vaccine doesn’t hurt – before adding his signature phrase: “Not many people know that.”
NHS England chief executive Simon Stevens said uptake of the vaccine among older populations had been very high and the campaign was a way to encourage others who can take the vaccine to do so.
“More than nine in ten people aged 75 and over have already accepted the offer of their NHS Covid vaccination, and now we want to encourage all members of high priority groups to do so,” Stevens said.
“This is why we are grateful to Sir Elton and Sir Michael for helping the NHS promote adoption of the vaccine,” he added.
The government has pledged to offer a vaccine to all members of its four most-at-risk groups by mid-February.
Despite the strong adoption, community protection can only be achieved when a large majority of the population has been vaccinated, and scientists have warned of the challenges posed by misinformation and reluctance to achieve vaccination. this step.
