"Emergence" Recap: Episode 1 – ABC Drama Series Premiere

If you've seen one of the many ABC commercials Emergence, then you already know the strange event in the city of Southold: "A plane crashed on a beach!

But as we learned on Tuesday's premiere, that's really what's happening after the plane crash that is even stranger.

Allison Tolman (Fargo) plays in supernatural drama under the name of Jo Evans, chief of the city police. When Jo arrives on the scene of the fall of the said plane – a crash that has thrown a mysterious and iridescent light in the sky, it should be noted – she finds a shy girl (Billions"Alexa Swinton) who is hiding near the scene of the accident, who quickly takes a liking to Jo when she decides that the chef is trustworthy.

Together, Jo and the girl (who will later be called Piper) head for the hospital. A scanner shows that Piper has no injuries, even if she does not remember anything, including her name or place of origin. In addition, doctors are skeptical about Piper's presence on the plane when he fell, since she does not suffer from a scratch.

Emergence PremiereJo decides to let Piper stay at home, where she lives with her daughter Mia and her father Ed, who has cancer, until the situation is resolved … but she's not the only one who wants to keep Piper. Throughout the first, Piper is pursued several times by a man and a woman with malicious intentions, who claim to be first investigators of the NTSB before posing as the true parents of Piper. What they want with Piper is not clear, but it sure is not good – and just when Jo thinks that she put Piper safe, the man and the woman kidnap the girl and lead her with her.

Here's where things go really Strange: As Jo speeds up after Piper's kidnappers in his police car, Piper's vehicle suddenly collapses. The man and the woman inside are killed by the crash, but Piper, once again, escapes completely unscathed. Still a stranger? It does not seem that the car of the kidnappers hit no matter what. It's just … returned spontaneously. (Add this to the list of events related to Piper in the first, as well as his apparent telekinesis abilities and the appearance of a strange symbol on Jo's television, which continues to flash on the screen as Piper approaches him.)

Piper explained to Jo that she still did not remember anything of her past, including the incident that took her to Southold Beach. In fact, she is a little afraid to remember the details: "If I remember correctly, I will have to leave. And I want to stay, "she told Jo.

But it seems that Piper may have a little more information than she says. At the end of the hour, Piper heads to Jo's bathroom and experiences an extremely strange experience after brushing his teeth. While she watches the water flowing from the tap, Piper almost seems to turn into her, creating a strange vision in which she to become the water, letting it flow on it until its face is almost covered by the creek – until it pulls itself out of the trance, the air stunned.

Then, Piper grabs Jo's jacket, which she wore for most of the episode, and pulls out a knife that she slipped Ed tools earlier in the day. Looking at herself in the mirror of the bathroom, Piper uses the cutter to prick right behind the ear, then enters the inside of the cut and takes out a small glowing globe. It is almost the size of a keel and bears the same symbol that appeared on Jo's television this afternoon. Piper then lavaes her in the sink, cleans up the mess and removes her hair from her ponytail to cover the wound behind her ear – and she looks powerful and satisfied with herself. .
