Emergency! Actor Tim Donnelly has died at the age of 77 following surgery.

The older brother of the late actor, director Dennis Donnelly, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the actor died at his Santa Fe, New Mexico home on Friday.

Donnelly played the role of firefighter Chet Kelly on the NBC show during its run from January 1972 to May 1977.

The character of Kelly, based at Los Angeles County Fire Station 51, was marked by her penchant for jokes.

The Los Angeles County Fire Museum honored the late actor with a statement.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our friend, Tim Donnelly, on September 17,” the museum said. “Tim, as you know, played Chet Kelly on EMERGENCY! among many other roles during his acting career.

Donnelly’s father, Paul Donnelly, worked at Universal Pictures as vice president of production, while his mother Eileen was the daughter of actor Pat O’Malley. The actor is survived by his daughter Ashley, his brother Dennis, his sister Kathleen and his two grandsons.
