The Signal secure messaging service is operational again after an outage caused by increased demand.
Signal, like another secure messaging app, Telegram, recently saw its popularity skyrocket amid the fallout from the Capitol Riot.
A recent privacy update for WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook, has helped boost demand for Signal and Telegram, according to the Associated Press.

On Saturday evening, Signal explained that its service had been restored following a demand-related outage.
“Signal is back!” he tweeted. “As an outsider going through a training montage, we’ve learned a lot since yesterday – and we’ve done it together. Thank you to the millions of new Signal users around the world for your patience. Your ability to understand has inspired us during that we increase our capabilities. “
However, in a subsequent tweet, Signal noted that some users might see errors, but added that this would not affect the security of their messages.

“As an unfortunate side effect of this outage, users may see errors in some of their threads,” Signal wrote. “This does * not * affect the security of your chat, but you might have missed a message from this contact. Future updates to the Signal app will fix this automatically.”
On its website, Signal touts the ability for users to “share without insecurity,” noting that it uses end-to-end encryption to secure messages. “We can’t read your messages or listen to your calls, and neither can anyone else,” he says.

According to data from app analytics specialist Apptopia, Signal was ranked number 10 on its list of the most popular free apps on the iOS App Store as of January 16, 2021, and Telegram was number 4. Signal was ranked number 1 on the Apptopia list. free applications on the Google Play Store with Telegram in second position.
