Emily Ratajkowski addressed her lip-injecting accusers directly in an Instagram story on Friday.

The pregnant model, who is expecting her first child with independent film producer Sebastian Bear-McClard, took a straight-faced mirror selfie and wrote long captions on her changing face and body.

“For anyone who says ‘you need to stop lip injections’: I have never had lip injections (never had lip injections – you look good! ), But you can’t even get an injection when you’re pregnant! ”Ratajkowski, 29, wrote. “A woman’s blood volume increases by 50%, which is why women can have some swelling in their face and lips during pregnancy.”

While Ratajkowski is adamant that dermal fillers cannot be done during pregnancy, it is not illegal to do so. What’s more, the long-term effects of Botox-like fillers or substances on pregnant or breastfeeding women are currently unknown, according to a report from Sistine Plastic Surgery – a Pittsburgh-based plastic surgery clinic.

The lack of available research is one of the main reasons why most cosmetic doctors and certified injectors refrain from working with patients at this stage of life. However, it is not impossible to find a practitioner capable of providing an injectable service.

Model Chrissy Teigen, 35, shared 13 million with her Twitter Followers that she was “allowed to do neck muscle botox with a crazy combo of beta-blocker shots and high frequency radio waves” to help with her migraines in September.

Besides Teigen’s transparency with her followers, other celebrities have been accused of obtaining fillers or Botox during pregnancy.

In a situation similar to Ratajkowski, Beyoncé’s team spoke out against unfounded lip injection rumors in 2017, according to Harper’s Bazaar.

That same year, TV personality Dr Mehmet Oz sparked a speech during an appearance with “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” when he suggested that Kylie Jenner should be OK if she continued to receive lip injections during pregnancy.

Several medical professionals have spoken out against the sound bite, saying the cosmetic procedure was misguided.

Jenner did not respond to comments from Dr Oz herself, however, the Injector who is credited with giving the reality star her signature pout – Dr Simon Ourian – said he didn’t ‘did not perform lip fillers on pregnant patients.

“I recommend that women stop filling their lips as soon as they find out they are pregnant,” Ourian told Page Six at the time. “No one knows the implications of lip fillers on pregnant patients since dermal fillers have not been tested on pregnant women.”
