"Empire" ends with season 6 on Fox

The Empire fell.

Fox announced Monday that the musical drama "Empire's", recently announced in a sixth season, will be the last show

"We are turning the last season into a televised event," said Charlie Collier, general manager of Fox Entertainment. "One of the great benefits of announcing a last season is that fans rely on the final they want."

When asked if Jussie Smollett would return for the final season of the series, Collier said, "For now, we have no plans for this." But Collier also noted that "the writers room for next season has not yet met."

As previously announced, Fox Entertainment and 20th Century Fox Television extended Smollett's option for season 6, but stated that at the time of renewal, it was not expected to appear.

During the fifth season, Smollett claimed to have been the victim of a racist and political aggression, as well as a homophobic. Later, he was charged with hiring the men who attacked and charged him for filing false statements. Criminal proceedings were dropped in March and Smollett has maintained his innocence, but the city of Chicago has also filed a lawsuit against the actor to recover the cost of the police investigation. Following the controversy surrounding the investigation, Smollett came out of the last two episodes of Season 5.

"Empire" was created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong, executive producers alongside Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo, Sanaa Hamri, Dennis Hammer, Matt Pyken and Diane Ademu-John. Brett Mahoney is executive producer and host of the series. The show is produced by Imagine Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television.

The series of companions "Star" was also canceled after three seasons.
