"Empire" is back with Jussie Smollett for his first mid-season on Wednesday, and fans have been running wild in front of his character on the screen that deals with public drama while the actor in real life is confronted to 16 counts for his alleged hoax hate crime.
In this episode, Smollett's character, Jamal, had to end her engagement when her fiancé, Kai, could not accept the illegal actions of her family. Finally, Jamal's family became involved in a large-scale drama, to which he had to respond.
"I do not know if you've all read the blogs and all this nonsense, but the week has been a bit difficult," said Jamal.
Twitter could not get enough of the irony.
"LeeDaniels is a medium," said a fan on the creator of "Empire's".
"Jussie Smollett is looking at #Empire right now," tweeted another, who included a gif of crying Anthony Anderson.
However, some viewers were uncomfortable watching Smollett on television, even though the episode had been filmed some time ago.
"I'm sorry, it's so hard to watch jussie without wanting to slap the #outout of it # Empire," tweeted a viewer.
"I'm just ready to see them cancel Jamal #Empire," tweeted a fan, alongside the woman glaring.
"" The week has been tough "… hahaha, it's more like a month to date, Jussie # Empire," wrote another.
Smollett, 36, will appear in court Thursday after being accused of organizing a racist and homophobic attack on himself.
