Employed at Friendly Fisherman, Madeira Beach's Restaurant, Diagnosed with Hepatitis A – History

– A food service employee from a Madeira Beach restaurant has been diagnosed with hepatitis A, according to the Florida County Health Department of Pinellas.

Anyone who ate at the Friendly Fisherman Restaurant between May 7 and May 20 may have been exposed. The restaurant is located at 150 John's Pass Boardwalk Place.

DOH-Pinellas stated that the employee could have been contagious during these dates. Anyone who has consumed food or beverages at the restaurant and has not been vaccinated against hepatitis A should consider getting vaccinated, health officials said. Those who have already received the vaccine against hepatitis A "do not need to take additional measures," according to a press release.

The vaccine is available in two doses, administered six months apart. The vaccine against hepatitis A can confer protection against the disease if it is administered within two weeks of exposure.

DOH-Pinellas offers the vaccine at the following locations from Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 5pm. with the exception of Memorial Day, in which the premises of the Ministry of Health will be closed.

Symptoms of hepatitis A include the sudden onset of abdominal discomfort, dark urine, fever, diarrhea, pale white stools and yellow skin and eyes (jaundice). Anyone with these symptoms should consult a doctor.
