California authorities have captured an emotion that drove agents in pursuit of a highway.
The Fresno Bee reported Friday that the bird had been apprehended as a result of a summary prosecution of California's highway patrol agents.
Authorities said officers responded to information that an ostrich was wandering along the right shoulder of US Highway 99, northwest of Fresno.
It turned out to be an emu, but the flightless fugitive was caught with dog traps.

The animal service of Madera County has placed the bird in custody.
The officers said that they did not know if the emu had escaped from a nearby farm or moving vehicle.
Emus, birds from Australia that do not fly, can run at speeds of up to 30mph and trot quickly over longer distances. These are the second largest birds in the world, behind the ostrich.
