The Red Sox are set to get their next Brock Holt in the form of Enrique Hernandez, a super-utility player who plays all positions except the catcher.

A source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand that the Sox and Hernández have come to an agreement on a two-year, $ 14 million deal. The club did not announce the signing.

Hernández, who won a World Series with the Dodgers in 2020, will help fill the void the Red Sox have at second base.

The Red Sox, who appear likely to lose Jackie Bradley Jr. in free will and have put Andrew Benintendi in trade talks, can use Hernández in the outfield as well.

While the defensive versatility Hernández possesses is an obvious advantage – as the Red Sox learned firsthand with Holt from 2014-19 – he can strike as well, particularly against lefties. In 893 career appearances against lefties, Hernández has a 0.820 OPS.

Hernández scored a career-high 21 home runs for the Dodgers in ’18 and returned with 17 more in ’19.

In 690 career games – all but 42 with the Dodgers – Hernández has a .240 / .313 / .425 cut-off line with 71 home runs and 227 RBIs.

Defensively, Hernández has divided his career as follows: 11 on first, 132 on second, 56 on shortstop, 14 on third, 60 on the left, 128 on the center and 35 on the right.

While the Red Sox haven’t made any flashy moves this winter, baseball manager Chaim Bloom has added depth to his squad with Hunter Renfroe and Hernández, as well as pitching staff with right-hander Matt Andriese and left-hander Martín Pérez.
