Enviosity opens up about Genshin Impact controversy and his journey as a content creator

Genshin Impact’s popularity is unmatched when it comes to gacha games. The engaging storyline, graphics, and combat featured in miHoYo’s flagship title have encouraged many streamers to create content around its immersive world.

Enviosity, an enigmatic gamer and streamer, is one of the most popular content creators admired by fans around the world. He also holds the title of Most Viewed Genshin Impact Streamer on Twitch with a follower count of 538K.

Not just Twitch, Enviosity is also famous on YouTube, and its channel has 371,000 subscribers. In an exclusive conversation with Debolina Banerjee of Sportskeeda Esports, Enviosity talks about her journey in the video game world, her love and dedication to Genshin Impact and more.

Q. Becoming one of the most prolific Genshin Impact streamers will be a challenge and a reward! Tell us how you started your adventure in the world of video games and what inspired you to dive into the world of this action role-playing game.

I started broadcasting about eight years ago with Call of Duty. My main reason for creating a Twitch account was to easily record my competitive matches and upload proof of winning without any issues. Eventually I fell in love with making connections across the world and meeting new people.

Gradually, I switched from FPS games to a platform game known as Super Mario Maker in March 2016. I became a partner streamer on Twitch, thanks to SMM, on September 9, 2016. After playing the game for a year going without a break, I inevitably got exhausted, which led me to look for other games.

One viewer recommended a game called “Arknights,” which was an anime-style tower defense gacha game. Normally I’m not into mobile games, but something about it piqued my interest. I love strategy games, so connecting to them was pretty easy.

After realizing that Arknights was consuming my real life, leaving me little to no free time, I decided it would be best to give up gambling. However, my gacha addiction was still there. I immediately chose another gacha game called “Epic 7” and instantly got hooked for another month or two. Despite the pleasure, I still felt there was a void.

Epic 7 didn’t make me feel like I was part of the action. While playing it, I felt like a spectator. This is where Genshin Impact came in. When previewing the game, I was happy to admit that everything looked perfect. From music to sets and immersive combat. I knew then that Genshin Impact was going to be the last gacha game I would play.

Q. Unusual usernames are very common in the game scenario; and your real name seems to be top secret! Is there a story behind your original username? Would you like to share your real name with us?

My online username “Enviosity” is from Anime. I was a fan of the anime “Fullmetal Alchemist: The Brotherhood ‘‘. The story revolved around the Seven Deadly Sins, and the Sin “Envy” called out to me and seemed the most relevant to others. The rest was just for me to paste a suffix at the end of “Envy” to make it look like a real name.

As for my real name, I wouldn’t want to divulge it now!

Q. Besides Genshin Impact, are there any other games you like to play? What games did you play growing up?

The first games I can remember, when it comes to consoles, will be the SNES with The Tick, Donkey Kong Country 3, Kirby’s Dreamland 3, etc. When it comes to handheld games, I’ve always been a fan of Pokémon and it was basically the only game I would want for my Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS.

My PC was never powerful enough to handle games, so I often found myself playing browser games and even Minesweeper and Solitaire.

Q. Being a full-time content creator comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. What’s the best aspect of content creation? What set of challenges do you face when it comes to regular streaming?

I’ve noticed that with full-time content creation I’m my own boss. I decide my streaming hours and everything at my convenience. The main downside to this, however, would be that my brain is never turned off and I’m constantly struggling with myself to keep releasing more content or thinking of more content ideas for streaming or downloads. Youtube.

With a standard 9 to 5 job, it is much easier to separate work and personal life. With streaming, at least for me, there’s no stop button. This is my biggest fight and obstacle that I always try to overcome.

Q. Streaming games and creating content takes time, patience and dedication. When you’re not busy creating content, how do you like to invest your time?

I am very poor in the management of my time. I discipline myself to make sure I am streaming every day without a break. When I am free I like to spend time with my wife.

Q. You have a whole fan base on YouTube and Twitch. Do you segregate content based on platform? Which of these two platforms do you prefer and why?

Hopefully, with all of this Twitch leaking incident, viewers aren’t harassing streamers. Streamers display their sub-account and viewers can simply multiply that number by “x” to get a rough estimate. Combine that with all the huge giveaways that I do every month and you have connected the dots.

If I have to compare YouTube and Twitch, I would much prefer Twitch. Growing up using Twitch as my primary platform, I have grown to love memes and the community that comes with them. I don’t separate my content from Twitch and YouTube as YouTube is the main reason I grew up so quickly with Genshin Impact.

Discoverability is best done on YouTube. I plan not to mess with the YouTube algorithm when uploading unrelated Genshin content, but I still have the option of a second YouTube channel if the idea arises.

Q. Genshin Impact is widely appreciated in the gaming community. Despite its strength, what’s the one thing you want to change in the game to make it more F2P friendly?

I’m at a point where I’m very demotivated to upload videos to YouTube (apart from my music video channel) Genshin Impact in its current state makes it worse because I feel like there is nothing to do besides logging in, burning resin, running errands and logging out. I think 2.2 will be the same

Currently, I don’t like how the weapon banner system works. Even after a few changes made by miHoYo, I still preach that the weapon banner should be banned for F2Ps and instead they should focus on the characters they like.

I did not wish once on the banner of arms and I do not intend to do so someday. I’m grateful that miHoYo gives us such great 4-star weapons (Festering Desire, The Catch, Dodoco Tales, etc.), but I wish 5-star weapons were easier to obtain.

Q. Genshin Impact has just completed a year and there has been a lot of controversy over the first anniversary rewards offered by miHoYo. What is your opinion on this? Is there a suggestion you would like to pass on to the publisher?

I think miHoYo could have taken a different path with the first anniversary awards to please the fans. The rewards seemed lazy as it was just a copy / paste from a previous Genshin event named “Lantern Rite”. Without sounding right, miHoYo could have given us something more memorable in the game. I would have been happy with a custom skin, weapon, or even a business card. Everything for us, the players who were here to look back on the first anniversary.

Q. Genshin Impact is quite an immersive game in terms of the action and range of activities that players can indulge in. Which game do you think is Genshin’s biggest competitor in terms of action and gameplay?

I will be honest with you. Genshin Impact checks A LOT of boxes when it comes to compatibility (playable on PS4-PS5, PC, mobile devices, etc.), beautiful scenery, phenomenal music, and immersive combat. Plus, it’s free on top of all that.

It is extremely difficult to find a competitor for Genshin at this time as I don’t see any other game currently providing what this title offers me. Of course, everyone has their own opinion and could easily say that they like another game more. For me, this is my ideal game.

Q. Which Genshin Impact character will you never get bored of? Do you have a favorite element?

Kazuha is my favorite Genshin Impact character. His playstyle is so smooth and honestly I can’t see myself playing the game without having him in my party. Since this is an Anemo character, that’s a plus for me, given that these Genshin characters are more versatile in team builds and synergy.

Q. Genshin Impact has its fair share of mighty villains and monsters. What was your toughest boss fight when you were a beginner? What were the characters you used?

The characters I used the most initially would be the original 7 characters – Aether / Lumine, Amber, Noelle, Kaeya, Lisa, Xiangling and Barbara. These are the seven characters that everyone in the game will get no matter when they start. Since I never wanted limited character banners, I familiarized myself with them for the first several months.

Fortunately, boss fights have never really been a problem for me. The only struggle I remember having in Genshin Impact at the start was the Spiral Abyss Floor 12. Come to think of it, I probably spent about two weeks trying to clean it for twelve hours every day.

Q. Most content creators rely on massive investments, which are not affordable for F2Ps. What tips and tricks would you like to share with aspiring streamers?

All I can say to any aspiring Genshin Impact streamer is: Be yourself. Being unique and original will help you in the long run rather than being someone else’s shadow. Just be your real self and hope for the best.
