Epic Games – best known in recent years for its incredibly popular and free royal battle game Fortnite – acquired Rocket League Psyonix developer for an unspecified amount.

Psyonix unveiled the news on his own website and reassured his fans that it would remain a community-based game:

Today is a great day for us here at Psyonix because, as the title says, we officially join the Epic Games family.

Your first question on this topic could be: "What does it mean for Rocket League and its community?" We are happy to say that the answers are only positive. Rocket League has always been and always will be a community-based game, and now that we are united with Epic, we can serve our community even more and better!

Epic will allow Psyonix to develop the game and develop its eSport ecosystem:

In the long run, we plan to bring Rocket League to the Epic Games store and take advantage of our new relationship to evolve the game in ways that we could not achieve before. We think bringing Rocket League to new audiences with more support is a win for all.

We think this is a big step forward for the Rocket League Esports ecosystem as it dramatically increases our potential reach and resources, just as it does for the game itself. We really think that our future in the field of sports will be very exciting.

One of the main concerns originally was whether the Steam version of the game would continue to be sold and supported. Psyonix has since confirmed that these users will still be able to play the game and look forward to future updates. For console versions, this should be fun and games as usual.

What do you think of the entry of Psyonix into the Epic family? Tell us downstairs.
