David Axelrod, host of CNN's "Ax Files", asked Holder when he thought Trump could be prosecuted as soon as he resigned.

"It seems to me that the next public prosecutor, the next president will have to make a decision," he added.
Axelrod also asked Holder if there would be a cost to prosecute Trump after the presidency in the absence of impeachment proceedings, citing former President Gerald Ford having chosen to pardon him. his predecessor, Richard Nixon.
"Yes, I think that the trial of a former president can result in a cost to the nation, and that this should at least be part of the calculation that goes into the determination that must be made by the next Attorney General" Holder said.
"I think we should all understand what a trial a former president would do for the country," he added, acknowledging that Ford's decision could have cost him the election of 1976.
Holder added, "But you know, I think that in hindsight, I tend to think that it was probably the right thing to do."
The former Attorney General also reiterated his support for an imputation inquiry.
"I think they should proceed with a dismissal investigation, a dismissal investigation," he added. "It does not necessarily commit you to impeach the president."
