The Florida Panthers have signed a quarterback.

Miami quarterback D’Eriq King has become the first college player to sign a support deal with the Panthers, the NHL team announced on Monday. King will appear at select Panthers games and events, engage with fans on social media, and produce digital content.

The deal also sees King working with the Panthers to develop a collection of merchandise, co-branded artwork, and his own exclusive concession menu that will be available at all Panthers home games and events for the season. future.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

“D’Eriq is a superstar both on and off the field and we are thrilled to reach and engage South Florida sports fans in new ways through this collaborative partnership,” said Sam Doerr , director of strategy for the Panthers.

The Panthers were the first major U.S. professional sports team to develop a plan in which college athletes could line up with them under the recent rule allowing them to take advantage of their name, image and likeness. King has been among the nation’s most wanted athletes since players could start signing such deals this month. The Panthers contract is at least the sixth known deal King has made this summer.

“The whole NIL thing, I think it’s really good for college football,” King said during the CCA media days last month. “My thing was to work with good companies. You can’t work with everyone. You want to work with companies that match your core values. You don’t want to go out there and work with that company. , this business, this business. “

It took the Panthers about three weeks from unveiling the program to King signing, and the team plans to recruit more athletes soon. The Panthers have said they value diversity and want female and Olympic sports athletes to be a part of their program.
