Erykah Badu apologized for being a “horrible guest” at Barack Obama’s 60th birthday party after her photos sparked a backlash against the former president.

Badu shared unauthorized photos of the event, which took place in Martha’s Vineyard on August 7, featuring hundreds of guests not wearing masks.

The footage, which has since been deleted, drew criticism of the party, which it called a “superspreader event.” The star has now apologized on Twitter for posting the footage without permission.

“Sir. And Mrs. Obama, please forgive me 4 for being the ‘terrible guest’ at such a sacred event for your family,” she wrote. “I was so inconsiderate, thank you for all your love. What an example of ‘how NOT’ to be …… erica.”

When a Twitter user suggested that the Obamas “forced” her to “remove the video and publicly apologize,” Badu replied, “Naw sis. It’s just what it takes.

Obama’s birthday party grabbed the headlines before it took place after the star-studded guest list of 475 had to be removed due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in the United States. Among those who were not invited, there was Calm your enthusiasm comedian Larry David; and talk show hosts David Letterman and Conan O’Brien.

Among those in attendance were Jay-Z, Beyoncé, George Clooney, Steven Spielberg, John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union.

Meanwhile, EarthGang paid tribute to Badu in their latest single “Erykah”, released last week (August 12). The song features a tale of the star’s early influence on the duo, as well as excerpts from “Window Seat” from Badu’s 2010 album “New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh)”.
