Ryan Leaf – the ex-quarterback who struggled in the NFL and battled personal problems, including an addiction that led to a jail sentence – was hired by ESPN to stage college football games and animate a studio on the network.

According to the Associated Press, which has announced the hiring of Leaf, it will hold matches alongside its presenter, Clay Matvick.

Leaf was named second by the San Diego Chargers after Peyton Manning went to the Indianapolis Colts in 1998, but he had big problems during his career in the NFL. He had a hard time after his football career after five seasons in the league and has often been called one of the biggest beats in NFL history.

After his NFL career, Leaf had to deal with prescription painkillers and was arrested in 2012 for forcibly entering a home in his home town of Great Falls, Montana, and stealing painkillers. . He served nearly three years in prison, where he began his healing journey.


This road began when he met a former prisoner, who was a fellow inmate, who encouraged him to help learn to read to other prisoners. Leaf spent 32 months in jail and, when he was released, he traveled the country to talk about addiction issues.


Leaf, 43, recently worked for the Pac-12 network and hosted a radio show on the SiriusXM Pac-12 station. The former Washington State quarterback finished third in the Heisman Trophy vote in 1997.
