The first half of the Boston College vs Clemson game marked a moment for the Tessitore family.
ESPN announcer Joe Tessitore, returning to college football games after spending two years at the “Monday Night Football” booth, was on call for the trip from British Columbia to Death Valley. The mission was special for Tessitore because her son, John, plays for the Eagles.
John Tessitore is a sophomore in a red shirt who serves as both a kicker and punter for Boston College. He’s also the starting starter for his team, and he was in the middle of a big game at the end of the second quarter.
Clemson, the nation’s No. 1 team, played without star quarterback Trevor Lawrence and fell behind BC 21-10. BC was looking to increase that lead before half-time, but a practice stalled inside the Clemson 30. At that point, the placement unit arrived on the field and Tessitore was in the middle of a great game with his dad on the call.

Instead of trying for a 40-yard field goal, Tessitore moved under center and did a tight count, pulling Clemson offside. Since it was a fourth and second game, the penalty gave Boston College a first try.
“Tessitore is under the center!”
How cool is that?
And on the very next play, Boston College made Clemson pay for his mistake. Phil Jurkovec looked into the end zone and found CJ Lewis, who maintained his focus and made a juggling touchdown, a knack.
Overall, it was a hell of a streak for Boston College. And if British Columbia holds up for the huge upheaval, it’s a moment we could potentially point to as a key moment of the game.
