The essential phone becomes an update Android 10 from the first day of the operating system release. This is remarkable for two reasons: Android phone manufacturers, in particular, are slow to release updates. So, whenever a phone receives an update the day of publication, it's a big problem. But on top of that, it's amazing that Essential's only phone is still supported. Essential Phone is now two years old and the company would have stopped developing its successor well over a year ago. Despite this, Essential continued to offer regular updates to its users.
This is not really a first: last year, Essential Phones also received a release day update for Android Pie. It was also surprising, but at the time, the phone was still only one year old and Essential still had more signs of life.
The Android 10 update is being rolled out for "Select Open Market Customers" today. This means that if you bought the phone via Sprint, you will have to wait. If you have bought it elsewhere, check the update because it may be available.
Essential is not the only company to offer an Android 10 update today. 9to5Google spotted that Xiaomi is also updating the Redmi K20 Pro today.
Google has made changes to Android in recent years, supposed to allow developers to update the heart of the operation more easily. Until then, this meant that a number of manufacturers were participating in public beta testing for new operating systems. Their latest updates did not all come right away, but they came pretty quickly. Compared to Android updates from previous years, this is a big step forward.
