Ethiopian Airlines will establish a local cabin equipment production plant in cooperation with German interior specialist ACM Aerospace.
The Star Alliance carrier states that the site will manufacture and supply seat covers, seat belts, carpets and "many" other interior parts.
While the facility will initially use imported raw materials for production, it will be "soon" able to certify leather and fabrics to support local suppliers, the Ethiopian adds.
100 employees will be employed by the factory, which must be certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency.
The CEO of Ethiopian group Tewolde Gebremariam said the project was developed in recognition of the government 's five – year industrialization plan, and that it is part of similar aerospace initiatives.
"We are working in partnership with aircraft manufacturers and other aerospace suppliers to establish and develop the Flight Fleets Analyzer lab shows that the Ethiopian pbadenger fleet includes nine A350s, 19 Boeing 737s – including one – Max-8 – [19659008] six 767, 10 777, 21 787 and 18 turboprop Bombardier Q400.
The carrier ordered 15 A350, 29 737 Max-8, a 787 and Q400.
