Aamir Khan leaves Saare Jahan Se Accha because of the Mahabharata
Aamir Khan was the first choice of Rakesh Sharma's biopic, Saare Jahaan Achcha. But he retired and Shah Rukh Khan came on board. Writer Saare Jahaan Accha revealed that Aamir Khan had abandoned the role because of Mahabharta.
After the failure of Thugs of Hindostan, Aamir is consumed by Mahabharaat. Present at the 2nd edition of the 2018 Cinestaan India Storytelling Contest, Aamir Khan was interviewed on Saare Jahaan Se Accha. He said,
"I think it's a great and wonderful script. I am a big fan of Rakesh (Sharma) and it's a wonderful story. I am sad that I can not do it. That's why I called Shah Rukh and told him that it was a wonderful story and that you should hear it. " I am really happy that he liked it and he does so, all my best wishes for their project. "
The film, which was previously called Salute, reportedly marked a meeting for Anjum and Aamir 20 years after their previous collaboration, Ghulam (1998), which was their first film together.
"Frankly, I really wanted Aamir to do it and by that time he had loved. We had a lot of discussion. We had a lot of hope for that, but unfortunately (there was) the biggest project of Mahabharata, which devoured him, "Anjum said.
According to a recent press report, Mahabharata would be a seven-part web series for which Aamir Khan would fly to the United States to develop the script. The reports also suggested that he would play the role of Lord Krishna.
"Saare Jahaan Se Accha" will be directed by Mahesh Mathai and written by Anjum Rajabali. Ronnie Screwvala will produce the film, with Siddharth Roy Kapur, under the banners RSVP and Roy Kapur Films, respectively.
"Saare Jahaan Se Achha will make his appearance in February and I was very excited about the film because, as Aamir said, I was also a big fan of Rakesh and now he is also a good friend, "said Rajabali.
