The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial, coordinated by the Global Network of People Living with HIV, is one of the world's oldest and largest popular advocacy campaigns for HIV awareness worldwide. In May, the UNAIDS China office invited members of local community organizations to hold a commemorative event at the 36th International Candles AIDS Memorial at the UN headquarters in Beijing.
Organized by the Man Wellness Center and the Beijing Love Without Border Foundation under the theme "Ignite Hope, Blessing for Love", the event brought together community members, activists, youth, health care providers , representatives of the private sector and other people working in the response. They remembered the victims of AIDS and recommitted their efforts to end the AIDS epidemic as a threat to public health by 2030.
Civil society activists in China are working hard to spread the message that as long as people living with HIV receive regular treatment and are virally repressed, they are not infectious: Undetectable = Untransmissable .
At dusk, people lit candles in memory of the victims of AIDS-related illnesses.
