Eritrean President Isayas Afeworki is expected to pay an official visit to Ethiopia, the office of Ethiopian Prime Minister. The office also called on Ethiopian to warmly welcome the Eritrean president when he arrived in the capital, Addis Ababa.

His visit takes place just a week after the Ethiopian Prime Minister, his Foreign Minister and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. visited Asmara, the capital of Eritrea, last week. Residents of Asmara took to the streets to receive the Prime Minister and his entourage.

The Eritrean president revealed his austere lifestyle by inviting the Ethiopian Prime Minister and his entourage to have a coffee in his private residence whose video was widely shared. "I learned a lot from the simplicity of his way of life and his closeness to the people," said the prime minister, admiring the president's selfless life and highlighting the level of corruption of many African leaders.

The Eritrean President visits Ethiopia at the invitation of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and he will stay in Ethiopia for three days. According to sources close to the Ethiopian government, he is expected to meet Ethiopians at Millennium Hall in the capital Addis Ababa. Visiting the Hawbada Industrial Park is also part of the Eritrean President's work visit schedule.

Both countries agreed to end the state of war after two decades of "non-peace-no-war" marked by sporadic skirmishes. The restoration of peace between the two countries has caused much excitement on both sides of the border

Similarly, an agreement has been reached in the fields of economic, political and regional cooperation in security matters. The direct telephone line between the two countries is restored and the Ethiopians would have called random numbers in Asmara as an expression of happiness with the new state of relations between the countries.

Ethiopian Airlines resumes flights to Asmara from 18 July 2018.

The visit of the Eritrean President to Addis Ababa, after more than two decades, is considered by many to signal that the relationship between the two countries is on the right track.
