Ott Tänak won his 200th stage victory of the FIA World Rally Championship on Sunday morning by extending his lead at Neste Rally Finland.
Information on stage: SS20 / 21
ES20: Laukaa 1, 11.75 km
Laukaa is a clbadic of the Rally Finland. A winding opening kilometer leads to a long straight line where the speed exceeds 200 km / h. Then come high-speed ridges where aerodynamics keep cars stuck to the road. Much of the stage runs through farmland with long open corners, but a series of square curves are then masked by tall grbad within the last mile.
ES21: Ruuhimäki 1, 11.12 km
A familiar step, piloted in the same format as 12 months ago. The opening 4 km was new last year, leading to more traditional roads and a well-known high speed southpaw 9 km tighter. Then, the famous jumps succeed one another before a new stadium section leading to the finish, which contains another monster leap.
He was the fastest at the first stage of Laukaa in his Toyota Yaris for more than a second by Sebastien Ogier to bring his lead over Esapekka Lappi to 20 seconds. Tänak reached 22.0 s with a fourth on the big jumps of Ruhhimäki.
"It was a bit of a surprise to see the best time. It was very, very clean but nothing special. Everything feels good, " said the Estonian as he headed for two stages after his second consecutive victory in Finland.
Lappi conceded time in third place, Jari-Matti Latvala, in both stages, the gap between the pair having fallen to 7.3sec.
"I was a little too tidy at the first step to be honest, but it was better to be like that than the way it ended last year. Everyone knows that I did not make the second stage last year, I fell during the previous one and it is always difficult to discover new pieces ", explained the Citroën C3 driver.
Latvala felt his braking was messy in the first game, but the Yaris driver rectified the shot at Ruuhimäki while he was the fastest.
Andreas Mikkelsen and Sébastien Ogier continued their titanic battle for fourth place. Ogier, feeling much better after yesterday's illness, recovered six tenths of his C3 at Laukaa while the gearbox of the Mikkelsen's Hyundai i20 was briefly neutral.
The Norwegian regained the seventh tenths at Ruhhimäki to leave the gap at 1.7 seconds. Craig Breen was outdistanced by the duel and lost 13.7 seconds.
Gus Greensmith's weekend ended prematurely when the Briton misled his Ford Fiesta by braking for a left turn at Ruuhimäki, in a tree and in ninth place.
