Ethiopia: Ministry Strengthens Emergency Medical Intervention

ADDIS ABABA – The Ministry of Health said that it has made concerted efforts to improve the quality and accessibility of the country's emergency health care .

This was revealed when the Ethiopian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology held its 13th Annual General Meeting at the Sheraton Addis Hotel yesterday

On this occasion, the Minister of Health, Dr. Amir Amin, declared that the ministry worked in partnership with relevant stakeholders to improve the quality of emergency response

. Amin noted that the ministry has built several trauma centers and introduced modern technological products into orthopedic services, including helicopter air transport.

An emergency response team would begin providing services next week in 11 locations across the country. The minister praised the rapid service of orthopedic health professionals and health workers to the victims of the recent bomb blast on Mesquel Square in Addis Ababa

. Biruk L. Wamisho, head of the Department of Orthopedics at the University of Addis Ababa, said for his part that, despite the small number of people, professionals have done great work to save the lives of many citizens. Biruk, who is also president of the Ethiopian Orthopedic and Traumatological Society, said professionals are also very committed to improving service delivery to save more lives.

Currently, the orthopedic specialty is offered in four universities: Addis Ababa University, Mekele University, Bahir Dar University and Jimma University. According to Dr. Biruk, preparations have been finalized to provide the course at Hawbada University next year

The conference would remain open for two days with a scientific and medical exhibition
