Discrepancies in political ideologies should not be the cause of discord but should serve as a foundation for rebuilding Ethiopia with constructive ideas, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed told opposition leaders on Wednesday. In his country, the Prime Minister urged each of them to submit proposals that will serve as a palliative to the country's problems.

Prime Minister Abiy said the discussion was about measures that would necessarily make the upcoming elections transparent, free, fair and credible.

He further stressed the need to prepare the so-called rules of the game for the next elections with competing parties, which would also include the acceptance of its results by all competitors.

"Political parties must understand and recognize the objective reality of the country and refrain from provoking disputes by telling stories about the past," he said.

In addition, political parties should transcend the regions they represent and represent the entire country, said Prime Minister Abiy, adding that respect for the constitution and the laws that flow from it is mandatory.

He expressed his belief that the discussion will be of paramount importance in the conduct of a political activity without conflict.

He said that the National Electoral Council of Ethiopia (NEBE) will use the ideas that will be raised during the discussion as a benchmark for the design of its program.

The Prime Minister finally called on all political parties to work together for the country, regardless of their ideologies and differences in strategy.

He called on surplus political parties with similar ideologies to reduce their numbers so that the public does not get confused, as the government can allocate sufficient budgets.
