The goals of Perisic and Mandzukic led to the fourth and final heartbreak for England, but there were many positive things to take from Russia 2018
so close, and yet so far away. England looked to be on the eve of the World Cup final, but was a victim of a determined team from Croatia who never gave up during a battle of four.
After pbading Colombia and Sweden to reach their first semifinal since 1990, England had a dream start when Kieran Trippier smashed a free kick in the opening minutes.
But the Three Lions did not know how to take advantage of their advantage, and that is Ivan Perisic who restored parity after the break with an improvised finish on sprawling Kyle Walker.
And Mario Mandzukic put an end to his hopes of going to the deciding match by finishing in overtime, sealing the final result to 2-1 in favor of the Balkans.
It was an exhilarating race for the faithful of England across Russia, however, and despite the disappointment, Gareth Southgate's charges were praised for a beautiful campaign.
Completely suffocated, but this young side gave absolutely everything. This is a big step forward and they will only improve in the future. They can keep their heads high, they have made our country proud. Congratulations to Croatia.

Thanks to the England team, and to the manager, for giving us this great World Cup race. It was a turn.

Despite being born in Spain, I felt a real link with the team of England in because of their football and the values that they have shown. I have seen a united, confident and ambitious side that is connected with the whole country. There is no doubt that they are a GREAT TEAM. Thank you, @England .

A game that was to be won by England when they were in the ascendant in the first half. We must marvel at Croatia: a population twice as small as London and a World Cup final
– Sam Wallace (@SamWallaceTel) July 11, 2018
Quite astonishing that England and Belgium are playing twice in this tournament, with both games being essentially meaningless.

Omg Gareth Southgate literally picks the boys off the floor. I can not cope. So much emotion. Proud of you, England. The next time. X

He comes home, he comes home, he arrives, the flight from England returns home.

Probably not the right moment / corresponding to the national mood etc, so excuses … but what missed opportunity. England after HT surpbaded 75 minutes and did not try to change anything that could have changed the balance of the game. Left two up, barely involved. What a pity

Incredible, Hrvatska! Such determination! It sounds like a revolution in the streets here in Podstrana! Must be the smallest nation in the final since Uruguay. Historical! (Sorry England & @nigelshortchess !)
