WhatsApp gets "status ads"

The online network organized the "Facebook Marketing Summit" (FMS) in Rotterdam. And for the first time, the exact details of WhatsApp advertising have been revealed. For many users, this is one of the most hated innovations. Finally, the two founders of WhatsApp (Jan Koum and Brian Acton) have promised that the service will be ad-free forever. But they have since left Facebook and the five-year deadline set for the ban on advertising, agreed upon during the acquisition with Mark Zuckerberg, has expired a few weeks ago.

Advertising will appear between different status messages and will occupy the entire screen in portrait format. For the moment, Facebook is very similar to Instagram. Again, the ad appears in the stream between the user's posts, but does not take the entire screen. In the Facebook application, the advertisements are even smaller.

In 2020 it starts

Finally, there is still good news. In fact, it was badumed that Facebook advertising would begin in 2019. But this is not the case. As the slide of the official presentation clearly shows, "status announcements" begin at WhatsApp until 2020. Until then, annoying ads will no longer be spared by users. One wonders if this comes after the start of the announced release wave. But for many users, WhatsApp is probably too important.
