The outgoing migration from Africa is widely described as overcrowded boats filled with desperate African migrants trying to reach Europe. The reality is that more than 80% of African migration is intra-continental.

Evidence-based narratives are essential in global migration discussions, as many countries are deeply divided on the issue. The Global Compact for Migration (GCM), which will be adopted next December, should serve as a basis for global governance of migration. But can the pact provide sufficient benefits in areas that really matter to Africa?

This view of Africa is presented by Tsion Tadesse Abebe, senior scientist at ISS on Migration in Addis Ababa. She will discuss the importance of the GCM for Africa and the challenges that the continent may face in implementing the Compact.
