NASHVILLE – A survey in Tennessee revealed that an accountant had stolen nearly a million dollars from an energy cooperative.
The state inspector's investigation revealed that former accountant Jason Kittle, of Volunteer Energy Cooperative, was charged with stealing Monday in Meigs County.
The investigators discovered that Kittle had made more than 240 unauthorized payments totaling at least $ 735,300 on his personal account. He also found that Kittle made more than 200 payments totaling $ 229,200 on a personal credit card account and at least 48 payments totaling $ 38,300 on the credit card. a member of the family.
David Murphy of the co-op said he called the police after discovering accounting problems in December. Kittle was fired in January after accepting credit card payments.
The Decatur-based cooperative has more than 96,000 members in 12 counties. Murphy says that internal controls have been added.
