Kamila Shamsie receives London Hellenic Prize, £ 10,000 cash prize for Home Fire
The Anglo-Pakistani writer Kamila Shamsie has distinguished herself in her latest offer, "Home Fire", which has just won the coveted London Hellenic Prize 2017 and a cash prize of £ 10,000 at an official ceremony that is held Tuesday.
Kamila's seventh novel, Home Fire, is an adaptation of the Greek myth Antigone, which reinvents Sophocles' play in a contemporary setting.
The prize is awarded to the best book inspired by Greek literature or related to the Greek tradition by celebrating "the cross cultural fertilization of the Greek and English worlds".
The news was announced in a tweet that reads as follows: "At the conclusion of a heated debate in the premises of New College Oxford, Kamila Shamsie was chosen as the winner of the 2017 award for his novel, Home Fire. "
Although the winner was announced on October 15th, the official ceremony took place on Tuesday night at King's College London.
Kamila has already won the Women's Prize for Fiction 2018 and has been nominated for the prestigious DSC Award for South Asian Literature.
