Kenney calls for immediate reduction in government-imposed oil production

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Unified Conservative Party leader Jason Kenney wants the Notley government to do more to reduce the oil price gap.

"I call on the Alberta government to take immediate action to impose a mandatory 10% cut in Alberta's oil production, I do not make this recommendation lightly," said Kenney.

Kenney said the legislated reduction in oil production would save jobs and stop oil sales in Alberta.

According to a UCP press release, a market badyst suggests that the reduction would result in an immediate increase in the price of Alberta oil and halve the current reserves of 35 million barrels over several weeks.

Premier Rachel Notley announced on Wednesday that her government would buy two more reams to carry more oil.

Kenney believes that installing additional cars is only part of the solution.

"We do not have a year to wait with a $ 40 differential, so we have to take extraordinary action now, in our opinion," Kenney said. "Over the last few weeks, I've been meeting industry leaders all the time, and very few have said they're looking for government help to buy additional cars."

The restriction regulations suggested by Kenney expire after one year of entry into force.
