Boeing Co.'s efforts to rebadure airlines and pbadengers about the safe return of its 737 Max airliner have garnered support from Ethiopian Airlines' President and CEO, Tewolde GebreMariam, whose carrier has been victim of the accident that caused the grounding of the aircraft.
The Ethiopian has "more confidence" in the American manufacturer who has expressed his contrition and admitted to having made a mistake in the treatment of new systems introduced on the Max, said Tewolde Tuesday at the Paris Air Show. He met "very frequently" Boeing executives at the show, including General Manager Dennis Muilenburg.
"They are more transparent and they are on the right track, they are doing the right things," said Tewolde in an interview. "I think now that everything is in order. We work together, so we have more confidence. It's good for global aviation. "
His comments indicated an improvement in relations between Boeing and Ethiopian, the largest airline in Africa, which had deteriorated after the March crash when the builder had asked if the pilots on board had followed the appropriate procedures. An official investigation then concluded that new software had pushed the aircraft down to the ground when an erroneous sensor indicated that the jet was about to stall.
Mr Muilenburg said on Sunday that he had arrived at the industry's largest "safety-focused" trade show and with "a tone of humility and learning".
