My compliments to David Pilling for the brilliant interview of businessman Aliko Dangote (Lunch with the FT, July 14). Mr. Dangote contributes enormously to Nigeria by creating jobs. During an extended business visit to Nigeria recently, I traveled to the interior and to the villages of the country. Mr. Dangote's name evoked respect everywhere. It is networked with commerce, even in remote villages.

My request to Mr. Dangote is not to waste his time and money on acquiring a football club. Wherever I traveled in Nigeria, I noticed children from five to twelve years old standing on street corners, outside places of worship, at gas stations, traffic lights, and even in their city. Kano native, with plastic bowls and metal goblets. coins or food. It was heartbreaking. These kids should be in school, I told myself many times.

I urge Mr. Dangote to spend his wealth to start as many schools and colleges as possible. The children of Nigeria will be grateful for a better future
