In what could arguably be the best match of the 2018 athletics season, Noah Lyles beat Michael Norman in the 200 meters at the Lausanne Diamond League meeting on Thursday afternoon in 19.69. Norman took second place in 19.88 in the battle of the two young stars of the American sprint.
Lyles, 20, has not lost a 200-meter race since April 2017. His resume now includes wins at Diamond Leagues in Shanghai, Doha, Eugene and Lausanne. .

Before Thursday's race, Norman and Lyles clashed for the last time in the 200-meter final of the 2016 US Olympic Trials. missed the Olympics while Lyles was fourth and Norman just 0.05 behind him for fifth place.
Lyles and Norman did not compete at the 2018 US Track and Field Championships in June as Norman ran the 200-meter and Lyles won the 100-meter national title in 9.88. Norman, 20, did not compete in the 200-meter final after a big rain delay on the last day of the competition.
Norman's season includes a college record of 43.61, making him the sixth fastest time. He also holds the 400-meter indoor world record of 44.52 at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in March.
Last month, Norman announced his decision to relinquish the remainder of his NCAA eligibility to the USC to become a professional. Lyles is a professional since the 2016 US Olympic Trials.
