Harare – The superstar of Zimbabwean music, Oliver Mtukudzi, will be buried on Sunday in his rural house in Madziwa village, Mt Darwin, Mashonaland Central province, about 150 km north of the capital.
Mtukudzi, who succumbed to diabetes Wednesday at the Avenues Clinic in Harare, has been declared a national hero for his illustrious career over four decades.
The announcement of the funeral arrangements was announced Friday by the Minister of Information Services, Advertising and Broadcasting, Monica Mutsvangwa, in the capital.
The body of the musician will be taken to the National Sports Stadium of the capital on Saturday, January 26 for a concert and sent before being transferred to his country of origin.
A concert and music concert, called the Tuku Memorial Concert, was organized by the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Arts and Recreation in recognition of "the heroic works of the legendary musician for the development of Zimbabwean music in general" .
Before that, Mtukudzi's body will rest Friday in his Norton residence.
From his residence, he will pbad by the Pakare Paye arts center, where a religious service will take place.
The Pakare Paye Arts Center is a pole of artistic development created by Mtukudzi in 2003. It is intended to develop talents in many practical artistic projects, including music, dance, theater, poetry and storytelling.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa, although declared a national hero, said the government would allow the deceased musician's family to run the program and set the date.
The decision to bury Mtukudzi would be in honor of his wish, that he would have revealed to several confidants.
