Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Appoints New Director of Prison Administration

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is now reforming the federal penitentiary administration. The former director could appear before the law to be held accountable for practices that violate the constitution.

PM Abiy Ahmed announced the appointment of a director and four deputy directors in the prison administration. Change was needed, according to state media, to address what the new administration calls "gaps" and limitations in practices in the task of performing constitutional duties.

The new Attorney General spelled the "loopholes" human rights, lack of accountability, non-existence of a professional practice of the prison administration.

Prime Minister Abiy entrusted the following persons to make changes to the federal prison administration:

1. Jemal Abbaso – Director of the Federal Prison Administration
2. Yaregal Ademe – Deputy Director of Finance and Human Resources Development
3. Commanding Officer Desta Asmelash – Deputy Director of Corrections and Rehabilitation
4. Commander Mulat Alemu – Deputy Director of Security and Safety
5. Commanding Officer Wondimu Chama Deputy Director on Basic Need

Appointments effective July 2, 2018

Prosecutor Federal General, Berhanu Tsegaye, also announced that former leaders who have broken the law seemed to be referring to flagrant human rights violations, will be subject to investigation and will see all the anger of the law to ensure the responsibility.
