The second leg of the Copa Libertadores final between Boca Juniors and River Plate will take place at Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu on 9 December.

The match between two rival teams from Buenos Aires, scheduled 2-2 after the first leg, was scheduled to take place last weekend at the Monumental Stadium in River.

But following an attack on the bus of the Boca team that injured players cut by shards of glbad and who had inhaled the smoke because of tear gas launched by police to try to calm the situation, the match was delayed twice on Saturday.

It was then postponed until Sunday before being indefinitely, until Thursday's announcement.

The South American football federation, CONMEBOL, announced Tuesday that the return match would be played outside of Argentina. They confirmed that it would be held in the Spanish capital.

Fans on both sides will be allocated an equal allowance, which means there will be no "recognized" team at home.

CONMEBOL also announced that River Plate had been fined $ 400,000 (£ 313,000) for fan violence and that the team would be required to play two games in camera.

CONMEBOL President Alejandro Dominquez released Thursday night in a statement: "The administration has chosen to hold the final match of the Copa Libertadores, in front of the two groups of supporters, in Madrid, in Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday. 9 [December].

"Those of us who know the beautiful game know that it is only about winning and losing, not killing or dying."

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez had already tweeted: "Spain is ready to host the Copa Libertadores final between Boca Juniors and River Plate.

"The security forces have great experience in these situations and are already working on the deployments needed to ensure the security of the event."
