Let's stop confusing the Ethiopian flag with the changing regimes of the Badges and Emblems of Ethiopia. Each Ethiopian regime, from Emperor Menelik to Emperor Haile Selbadie and Derg regime to the TPLF regime, adopted its own insignia and emblems and inscribed it on the Ethiopian flag. These insignia and emblems changed as the regimes changed.
Let's look briefly at the insignia and emblems of the ancient Ethiopian regimes. Under Emperor Menelik, it was the initial Menelik himself in Amharic, "M". Under Emperor Haile Sellasie, it was the lion with a crown on it. Under Derg, it was a kind of "hebretsebawinet" designed by artists. Under the TPLF regime, this is the star nicknamed "Ambasha", a local ethnic striped bread.
It is not surprising to see the Ethiopian people reject and demand the removal of the emblem of the hated and most repressive and criminal group in Ethiopian history, the TPLF of the Ethiopian flag. In fact, for most Ethiopians, shaking the red, yellow and green Ethiopian flag without the TPLF emblem and emblem is part of the resistance movement and part of the regime has been changing demand for 27 years. It seems almost certain that the TPLF scheme's emblem will be removed from the flag in a very short time once the transformation process is completed.
It is here that confusion appears. The badge of the TPLF regime on the Ethiopian flag and the flag itself are not identical. The Ethiopian people can rightly and legitimately reject the badge of the TPLF regime. But, by rejecting the Ethiopian flag or badociating the Ethiopian flag with a particular diet, ethnic group or religion or region, it is quite another thing.
The Ethiopian flag is the flag of all Ethiopians. All Ethiopians from all regions, religions and ethnicities have died for this flag and for the honor of it. The battle of Adwa, Machew, Ogaden and many other battles that have maintained the independence of Ethiopia, sovereign and proud are fought under this flag. All the heroes and heroines we have as a people and as a country have died for this flag. To despise this flag, is to despise them all. It's totally unacceptable and morally wrong.
In addition, the Ethiopian flag is not the only flag of Ethiopia. It's an African flag. The colors Red, Yellow and Green are now African colors. Most African countries have adopted these colors as the flag of their liberation struggle inspired by the victory of Ethiopia at the Battle of Adwa. All Ethiopians should be proud of this wonderful story.
Stop confusing the Ethiopian flag with the insignia and emblems of Ethiopia's changing Ethiopian regimes or by badociating the Ethiopian flag with a particular regime, religion or ethnicity when the flag has no badociation Particularly with the Ethiopian elites, media and activists should behave responsibly and act with caution in matters of national interest such as flag and national unity and harmony between our country multicultural, multicultural, multireligious and pluralistic.
