His owners say that he has been showing signs of heart problems since the death of his "best friend", a dog named Buddy, in 2017.

"We think his heart sank literally when Buddy pbaded away," they wrote on his official Facebook page.

Boo had 16 million followers on Facebook, made appearances on TV and even published a book called Boo, the world's cutest dog life.

Boo and his friend Buddy lived together for 11 years – before his death in September 2017, at the age of 14.

Its owners, who are from the United States, say that Boo died Saturday morning in his sleep early the next morning and that they were "heartbroken".

They added, "But we find comfort knowing that he has no more pain or discomfort.

"We know that Buddy was the first to greet him on the other side of this rainbow bridge, and it is probably one or the other most excited since long time."

Its owners continued: "Boo, we love you with all our heart and we will miss you until the day of our next appointment.

"Have fun running with Buddy and creating an adorable mischief wherever you go."

In addition to publishing a book, Boo met personalities such as Seth Rogan, became an ambbadador for an American airline, and participated in several television shows in the United States.

Her owners said they have received many grades over the years, saying Boo "lit up their days and helped brighten their lives during difficult times."

"And that was really the purpose of it all … Boo brought joy to people around the world."
