As part of the reform program, the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today that it will announce new appointments of officials and diplomats in the very near future.

Ministry spokeswoman Meles Alem said the diplomatic missions would be based on the ministry's priorities of strengthening strategic partnerships, economic diplomacy, effective consular delivery and the involvement of the Ethiopian diaspora. according to a statement issued by the ministry.

The spokesman also said at his press briefings today (29 November) that he said the ongoing reforms within the ministry were meant to strengthen the capacity to "lead the country's foreign relations and national interests. ".

With respect to the deployment of human resources, political loyalty and party affiliations do not appear to be included in the selection criteria if the spokesman's words are true. "The main criteria are knowledge, competence and professionalism," he said.

Academics and key figures would have been included in the new appointments, but their names will not be revealed until the ministry makes an official announcement.

In line with its "Zero Dissent" political objectives in neighboring regions, experienced and competent diplomats will be badigned to the neighboring diplomatic mission – according to Meles Alem.
