Moussa Faki Mahamat, chairman of the African Union Commission (AU), praised the partnership between the 55-member pan-African bloc and China in various fields.

The head of the AU Commission made the remarks at the opening of the 32nd AU summit Sunday in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia, in the presence of African leaders , foreign diplomats and other personalities.

Speaking of the partnership between AU and China, Mahamat said the two sides have an unprecedented and extremely dynamic partnership in various fields.

The success of the summit of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum (FOCAC) in Beijing in September 2018 demonstrated "the unprecedented dynamism" of the partnership between the two sides, he said.

In September 2018, the AU officially inaugurated its representative office in Beijing, he said, adding that it would further strengthen the partnership.

"The remarkable success of FOCAC held in Beijing in September 2018 illustrates the unprecedented dynamism of our partnership," said Mahamat.

"The opening of an AU office in Beijing will obviously strengthen this multifaceted and fruitful partnership, including the strategic dialogue between the AU Commission and the People's Republic of China", he added.
