The portable museum of Turkey attracts a huge crowd in Ethiopia

The portable mathematics museum set up by the Yunus Emre Institute (YEE) in Turkey attracts tremendous attention from students from northern Ethiopia.

The museum aims to increase awareness of mathematics and science. Africa Games Games 2018, ongoing at the University of Mekelle

The five-day games began on July 2 with thousands of students from 18 African countries participating in various activities, competitions, and exhibitions in the science, sports and the arts. The museum is part of the Turkish academic and scientific cooperation project of the Yunus Emre Institute (TABIP).

Özgur Can Yıldız, a museum official, told the Anadolu (AA) agency that the museum was built yesterday and that it was visited by hundreds of students with a high interest.

Prof. Hiwot Kindeya, rector of the University of Mekelle, visited the museum. "It's certainly the most interesting stand of the event," she noted.

Traveling in other parts of Ethiopia

Dr. Macit Koç, advisor to the rector of Mekelle University and coordinator of the project in Ethiopia, said: "We are very satisfied with the response we receive." After the African University Games, our museum will visit different cities of Ethiopia for students from various countries.

Koç said the museum would be donated to a university in Ethiopia.

TABIP was initiated by the Turkish presidency to enable young people from poor countries to experiment with new ideas and young scientists to connect with each other

In February and March, about 45,000 Syrian children aged between 6 to 18 years old, living in temporary accommodation and protection centers in Turkey, visited the museum.

The museum visited Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary after Turkey.
