HANGZHOU, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) – Zhejiang Province, in eastern China, reported 4,544 new HIV / AIDS cases in the first ten months of this year, an increase of 3 percent compared to last year, according to health authorities.

In October, 26,575 people living with HIV and AIDS were living in Zhejiang, according to the provincial center for disease control and prevention.

Sex is the main route of HIV transmission in Zhejiang, accounting for 97.5% of new cases reported between January and October, said Cao Qifeng, deputy director of the province's health commission.

Homobadual transmission accounted for 38.4% of new HIV / AIDS cases, up 5.6% from last year, while heterobadual transmission accounted for 59%, 1%, with an increase of 3.7% over one year, announced Cao before World AIDS Day, December 1.

About 89.9% of HIV carriers and AIDS patients received anti-virus treatment in October, with a treatment success rate of 95.9%.

There are currently 1,831 HIV / AIDS testing laboratories in Zhejiang.
