The head of the African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) in Zimbabwe, Hailemariam Desalegn, arrived Tuesday in the country, declared himself satisfied with progress of the country towards the legislative elections of Monday.

Shortly after landing at Robert Mugabe International Airport in Harare on Tuesday, the former Ethiopian Prime Minister stated that the work done for the 2018 elections in Zimbabwe was satisfactory, adding that he hoped that the peaceful environment would continue until the end of the elective process.

"I am happy to be in Zimbabwe who is moving to democracy.

" I followed electoral processes such as administrative issues concerning elections and the campaign process , including civic education. "Until now, things are going in the right direction."

The leader of the AU observation team said that the elections in Zimbabwe will be evaluated on the basis of the tank "The AU has its own charter for democracy and the election, we have a Charter for Human Rights and Democratization of African Nations and we follow the principles, national declarations as well as the AU Principles for democratic elections. We follow the guidelines prepared by our leaders to conduct democratic elections in Africa, "he said.

Boshe urged Zimbabweans to make sure the process is free and fair.

The country holds its first elections since the fall of leader Robert Mugabe last November

The pre-plebiscite period has been considered by many to be the most peaceful since independence in 1980.
