Hello, ciao. You are here because you love football and England or Italy. Or both. Or neither.

I am Faras Ghani (@farasG) and I’m going to bring you the biggest football game today (Argentina beat Brazil in the previous biggest game this morning) with Maria Michela D’Alessandro (@MMichiDale) in a Rome fanzone and Maira Watanbe outside Wembley Stadium in London.

Half time

Here are the updates for the last 45 minutes:

  • England lead thanks to Shaw’s second-minute goal
  • Italy dominate the ball, a shot on target
  • Scuffles outside Wembley, people without tickets trying to force entry
  • Tom Cruise, David Beckham and Prince William are in attendance

Thirty minutes passed

A third of the match has been played. England lead thanks to Shaw’s goal in the second minute.

Italy pressing and winning the possession battle but no shots on target yet.

Oh and Tom Cruise is at Wembley too in case you were wondering where he went after the Wimbledon final.

Fans fight their way

Maira, our correspondent outside of Wembley, tells us fans without tickets are making their way inside the stadium.

“The police are trying to push these people back. There are still a lot of people trying to get in. There are also fights.

“Do not lose faith”

As England scored the opener, Italian fans in Rome say they have yet to lose faith.

“It will be the only one, don’t worry,” said Cady, an Italian-American girl.

The first goals are no better than that.

This game is played at a certain pace! Ten minutes later, England still in the lead and threatening to extend that.

Free kick for Italy

Italy have a free kick in a dangerous position. Badge the buckle well… on the top.

Bad news for the English in Rome

Michela, our correspondent in Rome, has this update:

“For security reasons there will be no English fans in the UEFA fanzone in Piazza del Popolo in Rome. It was the same for the semi-final against Spain.

More room for the Italians but what about the competition, man?

Now for something very important

While we are talking about football, it is also important to talk about other serious things in life 👇

[Maira Watanabe/Al Jazeera]

While you’re thinking about this one, think about all the laddoos (South Asian candy) you can get if the men of Southgate are victorious:

England in the house

Well that’s their backyard but still ..

Crystal ball hour

Who wins this one then?

England for the first time? Italy for the second? Football for the umpteenth time?

Vote now and be a winner:

When in Rome …

The atmosphere is festive at the fanzone, tells us our correspondent Michela.

“There are mostly young people but the area is not full at the moment. The police let people enter the square quite slowly. “
Mattia, Alessandro, Niccolo, Alex and Denis all wear gladiator costumes and came with this banner because “if we can’t go to Wembley, football is coming to Rome”. 👇

Path to the final

Getting back to football, here’s how Italy and England got to where they are today:

Wembley developments

Maira adds this from outside Wembley: “People are really crazy here, I have now arrived in a safer place. There are a few lines of cops dividing the type of fans that showed up. “

Reuters news agency reported how at lunchtime the sidewalks around Wembley were slippery with beer and underfoot looked like the stickiest pub mat as supporters sang, chanted and threw drinks under the police gaze.

Not a fun show, I have to say.

Can Italy do 34?

The Italians are unbeaten in the last 33 matches (27 wins, six draws). It’s a record ! Needless to say (I say it anyway), if they reach the 34th, they will be crowned European Champions for the second time.

Can they? Are they going? We will have all the answers for you here.

Large police presence in Rome

And Michela from Rome tells us that Piazza del Popolo, one of the two fanzones established in Rome, is surrounded by police officers and police cars.

“The fans come to the square singing and cheering for Italy. The two big screens in the fan zone are currently showing the Wimbledon final.

Impossible to walk around Wembley

Our correspondent Maira walks past Wembley Stadium. And she sends us this update:

“There are lots of people coming to the stadium, screaming, singing, people are really very happy and it’s almost impossible to walk around. Heaps of garbage already on the floor and people falling on the broken glasses, a little dangerous.

She also spotted Italian fans!

Got an appetite for delicious, freshly brewed stats? Well some stats go back to 1933 but I can say you can easily digest them.

Home or Rome?

What started on June 11 ends tonight: Italy faces England at Wembley Stadium in London in the 2020 European Championship final.

England will be hoping a partisan home crowd will help them lift a first major trophy since winning the 1966 World Cup at former Wembley.

Italy haven’t won the Euro since 1968, but the Azzurri are on a 33-game unbeaten streak since September 2018 and have never lost to England in a major event.
