The match will be physical, fast and competitive, and Italy has the technical ability to make it their night. But a strike from Harry Kane in the second half propelled the English to European glory for the very first time, handing England their first major trophy since 1966. Italy: In great form overall, they have given up a bit too much beauty against Spain which England will look to replicate. This usually comes from one-touch passes that catch a solid but aging defense off guard. As a result, they have to be a bit more precise to react to passes. Although they usually look to close after a pass, it will be necessary to follow the pass to avoid quick combinations near the top of the box. On offense, set pieces in the air will be tricky due to England’s size, but their speed and technical ability could be a problem for Harry Maguire and John Stones.
England: One less day off and 120 minutes of play against Denmark won’t matter here. Italy have just moved into extra time and England will have their freshest legs in the cup, boosted by what could very well happen in 90 minutes. It is by far the biggest game England have played in the past five decades, and they believe it. Playing at home is an advantage, but they will have to be careful. Italy have shown their ability to do damage from tight angles, and a quick close will be key. Jordan Pickford will have to make some big saves, but if he can find them, they might just pull it off. It’s going to be tight, it’s going to be tight, but never neglect a home team, even if the weight of a nation is on its shoulders.
