Among Kanye West’s media blitz to spark interest in long-delayed album Donda, West invited alleged abuser Marilyn Manson (real name: Brian Warner) on stage at one of the rapper’s many listening parties. Manson also received credit, along with rapper DaBaby, who lost his place at Lollapolooza, among other festivals, for making homophobic statements, on West’s album.
Numerous people aren’t happy with it, but the one that stands out is one of the accusers of Manson, the musician’s former partner, actor Evan Rachel Wood. Last night, Wood performed a cover of the New Radicals hit “You get what you give“who calls Manson by name with the lyrics” Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson / You’re all fakes / Run to your mansions / Come on, we’re gonna kick your ass. As Wood sang the lyrics, she lifted her middle finger in a not-so-veiled gesture at Manson. Wood then posted the video to Instagram, adding the caption, “For my fellow survivors who were slapped in the face this week. I love you. Do not abandon.
Earlier this year, Wood accused Manson of grooming and abuse on Instagram. She wrote:
He started treating me when I was a teenager and abused me horribly for years, ”she wrote. “I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I ended up living in fear of reprisals, slander or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call on the many industries that made him possible, before he ruined more lives. I am alongside the many victims who are no longer silent
Manson has denied the allegations. Nevertheless, in a demonstration of support for Wood, many other women also presented their own stories against Manson. Four women have since filed a complaint against Manson for sexual assault, sexual violence and more. He surrendered to authorities earlier this summer.
